Introduction of French language courses in two universities in Sharjah [fr]
On May 30th 2017, the French Embassy signed agreements introducing the teaching of the French language in two universities in Sharjah starting from the academic year 2017-2018
Two agreements have been signed with both the American University of Sharjah (AUS) and the University of Sharjah (UOS), in order to help them recruit a French teacher from France. These high-quality Universities receive respectively 6,000 and 14,000 students (15% of Emiratis at AUS and 40% at UOS) and attract students from across the Middle East.
This is the first agreement to introduce the teaching of the French language in universities located in the Northern Emirates. This program is offered by the French Embassy and has been enthusiastically welcomed by these universities. It will enable them to offer French courses starting from the beginning of the academic year 2017-2018. These courses will be taught to students enrolled in "Bachelor" programs.
The introduction of French classes in these universities will go hand in hand with the opening of a "French corner" as well as a range of cultural events that will be offered through the initiation of a French club. These first language agreements should be supplemented by other university cooperation agreements. In particular, the American University of Sharjah (AUO) has expressed the wish to welcome more French students through exchange programs.
