On 9th November 2018, French Minister of Culture, Mr. Franck Riester, visited the United Arab Emirates on the occasion of the first anniversary of Louvre Abu Dhabi, one year after its inauguration in presence of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.
On the occasion of the first anniversary of Louvre Abu Dhabi, French Minister of Culture, Franck Riester, visited Abu Dhabi on 9th November 2018, one year after its inauguration with the French president, Emmanuel Macron, along with the Vice-president of the United Arab Emirates, H.H Sheikh Mohamed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Abu Dhabi Crown-Prince, H.H Mohamed bin Zayed.
During his visit, the French Minister of Culture met with his Emirati counterpart, H.E Noura al Kaabi, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development, and with Abu Dhabi cultural authorities, including H.E Mohamed Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Department of Tourism and Culture of Abu Dhabi.
The French Minister of Culture visited Louvre Abu Dhabi’s new temporary exhibition, “Roads of Arabia : Archaeological Treasures of Saudi Arabia”.
The French Minister also visited the museum’s permanent collection, along with directors of partner museum of Louvre Abu Dhabi (Musée d’Orsay, Musée du Louvre, Musée Guimet...), including the temporary exhibition “Japanese connections : the birth of Modern Décor”, organized in partnership with Musée d’Orsay and Musée Guimet until 8th December 2018.

In the evening, as a preamble of the show « Roads of Arabia », celebrating the first anniversary of Louvre Abu Dhabi museum, Mr. Franck Riester delivered a speech under Louvre Abu Dhabi’s dome to highlight the exceptional cultural ties between France and the United Arab Emirates. He hailed the partnership between French museums and Louvre Abu Dhabi and paid tribute to the cooperation between French and Emirati teams in the preparation of new temporary exhibitions, with the support of Agence France-Muséums.
After attending Agence France-Muséums extraordinary general assembly, the Minister congratulated the agency’s newly elected president, Mrs. Sandra Lagumina, Chairman of the Paris Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse. The agency, created in 2007, is an essential link between Louvre Abu Dhabi and French museums.
The French minister also met with his Emirati counterpart, H.E Noura Al Kaabi, and with the Chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism of Abu Dhabi, HE Mohamed Al Mubarak. On the occasion, Franck Riester thanked H.E Noura Al Kaabi for her constant support to the “Emirati French Cultural Dialogue”.
