France-Korea Animation Day
In the framework of 2016 France-Korea year, the French Institute in the U.A.E. with the Korean Cultural Center present a day dedicated to animation on Friday 25th November at Umm Al Emarat park (Mushrif park) between 3-10pm.
4.30 - 6pm: Workshop animated by Camille Lugan to showcase the many different pre-computer era techniques behind animation cinema, from paper-cut optical illusions, flipbooks and shadow puppets to modeling clay and stop motion. Younger kids will be welcome to draw, paint, build and experiment to learn how animation cinema creates movement and rhythm out of scratch! Older kids will also be able to learn about the different steps that lead to creating an animation film: script, storyboard, character design, sound design…
A night of cinema
6pm: Short movie ‘Le Prince des Joyaux’, by Michel Ocelot – 11 min (1991)
Here we have an innocent boy, a pretty princess, a treacherous merchant and a giant eagle who is fond of jewels. The tale is set in the country of the Arabian Nights, under a hail of precious stones…
6.30 - 8pm: Feature movie ‘Yobi the Five Tailed Fox’, by Lee Sung-gang – 85 min (2007)
Yobi, The Five Tailed Fox revolves around a kumiho, a nine-tailed fox that can assume different forms including human. This time, however, our protagonist is a young, kind-hearted fox with only five tails, instead of nine. After losing her family to fox hunters, five-tailed Yobi lives in the forest with some shipwrecked aliens, far away from the humans. When one of her alien friends gets captured by a villager, Yobi has no choice but to adventure into the human world to rescue him.

8.30pm: Feature movie ‘Jean de la lune’, by Stephan Schesch & Sarah Clara Weber – 95 min (2011)
Jean de la Lune is alone bored on the Moon. He decides to visit the Earth. One day, he hangs on to the tail of a comet and lands at our home. The President of the World, convinced that it is an invader, chases him. To escape him, Jean de la Lune is going to have to matter on the children and his friends…
